It's like life decided to haphazardly throw lemons at me.

I can't really catch them and most are just hitting me in odd places.

This has been my life lately.
Working lots at the pool during the week, and spending my weekends out and about freely. Last weekend I went down to Portland,  and spent a lot of time in the Portland Art Museum (PAM). More to come on that soon, it was a great time catching up with some friends from school, as well as getting away from everything - if only for a day.
It was my best friends birthday last week so I sent him a package of all things that reminded me of him. This includes: a Fun. CD, funfetti cake mix, an anchorman tee shirt, a batman/joker card, vitamin water, and of course a handmade card. He claims to have loved it. Part of me is a little skeptical because he hated the gift his girlfriend got him, however he outright told her that he didn't like it (smooth move bro). Oh well, I don't think they should be dating anyways.
My jobs at the pool have engulfed my life. I spent 15 hours at the pool I work this past Tuesday alone. 60+ hours a week I spend working, but since I'm on a salary this would be the equivelent of me getting paid $5 an hour. I'm going to ask for a raise.
I think I'm just taking things too seriously. Today, one of the newer employees told me I acted like I was 25. I'm taking that as a compliment, since I was dealing with pool members at that time, but I also feel aged, and  expected to act older than I am. Which I do. But I do still want to me a nineteen year old who runs around with his friends spontaneously, not really having to worry about operating a facility, running a swim team, and managing a "bussiness".
Seriously.
Am I working to live? Or living to work?
The lines are blurred.

That gift sounds like a wonderful thing to receive. I'm sure he loved it. Also, I hate it when friends date people you don't think they should. Sadly, we cannot control them like I sometimes wish we could.

And, yes, you should definitely ask for a raise.

Dude. Go get that raise!

And I'm sure your friend genuinely liked your gift. It seemed very heartfelt and thought out.

What an awesome birthday package! Just reading that list of contents makes it very clear you are not boring and old. Not that 25 is old... but you catch my drift.

Also, Portland is the besttttt.

Usually a guy telling his girlfriend he hated her gift is not a great relationship decision, but... at least he was being honest? Haha. I am all too familiar with not wanting people to be dating... I don't see how he could NOT like that gift though, cause it sounds fantastic.

Seriously though, 60+ hours is a lot. A raise is definitely in order.

That's an awesome package! Also, telling his girlfriend he didn't like her gift wasn't the smartest move if he wants to keep her as a girlfriend...

Gah. I understand the working to live/living to work thing. I don't work 60 hours a week, but that's only because they won't let me... honestly, I probably would if I could.

I expect a just awesome birthday gift (not really, you don't have to, since I'm shit at sending people gifts myself and they're usually just a postcard.)

also, maybe his girlfriends birthday present to him was really bad? like a fruit arrangement or something?

I'm sure all of the work you're putting in will end up being incredibly good for you later on.

Thoughtful gifts are hard not to like, unless you gave him a collection of everything he hates, but you didn't, so I wouldn't be skeptical.

I hope you get your raise you so obviously deserve! 60+ hours is insane for only $5/hr.

I've been getting a lot of people assuming I am older than I am. Like if I mention I'll be going to college in St. Paul, they're shocked to hear I haven't actually been there for the past year. It's weird. I can't be perceived as a free-spirited 17-year-old? Oh well. I try to take it as a compliment too.

P.S. I'll be sending your summer playlist CD soon. I always try to make a good, artistic cover for the case and I may or may not have enough blank CDs!
